Theresa Senato Edwards' poetry collection, Voices Through Skin, is a study of imperfection and difficulty. Each poem illustrates the way suffering makes us human, makes us less than perfect. The scars that appear from this struggle, earned at great cost, anchor us to the world. The poems Edwards has included in this book are gritty and often overwhelming. Sometimes the words, painful and wounding, tip over into beauty and sometimes they edge the reader more quietly into mere recognition, into witness. In either case, the pivotal truth of Voices Through Skin is that nothing endured is wasted.
